With June almost here it’s time to start thinking about this year’s NaNoWriMo! You may think it’s a long way until November but time will fly and if you’re a novelist in your spare time you need to put in the preparation. Last year I produced a few posts on the topic of NaNoWriMo 2013 (which I ‘won’ with my novel The Third Door) and I will re-visit those and add a few more.
Do you really need to start in June? I think it can’t hurt as you will find November easier if you have:
- a plot
- a synopsis
- a scene by scene breakdown.
All you want to do in November is write so doing all these in advance can only help.
If you don’t know about NaNoWriMo I have a few posts (see On Writing > NaNoWriMo in the menu) or try these:
You will see I decided to do NaNoWriMo 2013 in July and I actually did all my preparation in August while on holiday (at least on paper). I think laid out all my scenes in Scrivener in October ready for November1st. I will write more about tools over the next couple of months, until then start thinking!
