Do writers use LinkedIn?

LinkedIn LogoThis is a question, not a rant for or against LinkedIn. Amongst everyone who visits, how many of you use LinkedIn and is that as a writer or through your day job?

I get LinkedIn requests through this site and my profile is available through About Me. While I’m on the topic, please don’t use the enquiries email! I have a profile I started through my day job. I know many writers, of these some are on LinkedIn and out of those the vast majority are those with day jobs as well. I know very few full-time writers who spend much time on LinkedIn. There are several groups on there for readers / writers / freelancers and my experience with these is mixed — too many pushy posters.

I have lots of questions:

  • Do you use LinkedIn?
  • Is it useful?
  • What groups do you use?
  • Where else do you go to network?

Please, do, let me know. And if you want to connect, this is me: Tony Jones on LinkedIn.

  1. Hi Tony – I too am on Linkedin, and found that I was constantly being pestered by spammy attempts to point me somewhere else, or to sell me something lifechanging. I found the whole thing far too distracting. My account is now gathering internet dust.
Likewise Facebook. I have friends in their 60’s who virtually live there. I have an account for each of my pen names, but very rarely visit, again, I need my time to get words out, not to stroke egos with someone in Badiddlyboing, Idaho at 2 in the morning.
Sorry if I sound a tad cranky about social media, but I’ve just had a very strong coffee.
    Thanks for the post.

    • Thanks for taking the time to comment. Facebook I also don’t use actively though I do need to have an account to get information from several places that don’t publish anywhere else. I like twitter though it is full of noise as well.

      Cheers
