You may well have heard of this before, but it was new to me, so perhaps new to you as well. It’s a time management tool called The Pomodoro Technique. It’s a general purpose time blocking technique not just aimed at writing; I found a reference on a forum to a writing group who use it when they have group writing sessions. I intend to give it a go.
The Pomodoro Technique
In simple terms (and do look at the actual site), it involves blocking your time into chunks, only writing during the chunks (no email or twitter!) and then having proper short breaks. Even if you have 1,000s of words to produce in a day, doing this can help keep your mind fresh.
Out effective attention span is much less than we all believe, and ignoring symptoms of stress is a bad idea in the long term.
I have a new project on the go, so will be breaking my time up according to the technique and see where it takes me.
Do you use it? Let me know!
